Amateur Radio Classes

If you have an interest in Amateur Radio and would like to get your Technician License or upgrade to a General License or even to an Amateur Extra License, there is a team of professionals that can help you in a fun and exciting classroom environment.

Ham Radio classes are held three times a year (starting in the winter,spring and in the fall) sponsored by and held at the Salvation Army on Cheyenne. They are every Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, except holidays. Classes last about eight weeks and the cost is $15.00 plus the cost of the book for the class, approximately $30.00, which can be purchased at the classes, from ARRL,  GigaParts will be opening soon for local equipment purchases, online ordering is available now.  Once a confirmation date is published info will be updated.

Technician Class License
This is the first license you get when you start out on your adventure in amateur radio. Even if you do not understand electronics, the instructors will teach you everything you need to know to confidently pass the test. This class is held every September, the book that is required is ‘The ARRL Ham Radio License Manual’ 3rd edition. Classes begin September 25, 2017

The Technician class is also offered as a 3-day weekend course periodically through out the year. On Martin Luther King’s Birthday weekend, Memorial Day class is May 27-29, 2017, Labor Day classes is September 2-4, 2017

General Class License
This is your next license class as an amateur radio operator, first step in HF contacts. This class normally starts in January and the book you will need will be ‘The ARRL General Class License Manual for Ham Radio’ 8th edition. January 17, 2018.

Extra Class License
This is your final class of license as an amateur radio operator. This class normally starts in April and the book you will need is ‘The ARRL Extra Class License Manual for Ham Radio’ 11th edition. Classes begin April 10, 2017.
